'James and the Giant Peach' coming to VSHS this weekend

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Drama Department is putting the finishing touches on its production of “James and the Giant Peach,” which will take the stage at the VSHS auditorium on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 11at 2 p.m. When his mother (Marisa Chavez) and father (Wyatt Oltrogge) are swallowed up by a rhinoceros, poor James (Parker Oltrogge) is left in the care of his nasty aunts, Spiker (Nikki Thompson) and Sponge (Stephanie Waterbury).

Lutheran Home hosts Soup and Salad Luncheon

The Lutheran Home Auxilary will host their annual Spring Salad Luncheon, on Friday April 9th, at the US Bank Community Room, in Vinton. Bake sale begins at 9:00 a.m., and the salad luncheon will be from 11 a.m.-1p.m. There will be casseroles, salads, pies and beverages.  There are also carry out trays available. Cost is $6.00 per person.

4th STREET DINER NEWS

By Stacie Gorkow 4th Street Diner, HACAP North Benton Center, is located at 202 East Fourth St. in Vinton. Serving Buffet from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  A choice of salads is available on the buffet. Everyone is WELCOME!  Suggested contribution for individuals 60 years old or older, and their spouse (regardless of age) is $2.

Cono Christian School to perform at Blessed Hope

The choir of Cono Christian School, a Christian boarding and day school from Walker, Iowa, will perform at Blessed Hope Church at 1509 South 'M' Ave., Vinton on Sunday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m.. The public is invited.             The 35-member choir, which sings nationally each year, sings a full range of sacred songs, from gospel music, spirituals, and hymns, to classical choir selections.

Benton County Advocates to Hold Meeting

Are your electric rates going up with pending Cap and Trade Legislation?  Will Iowa be treated fairly with this Legislation?  Mr. Ruth has lead a grassroots campaign for the past six months to inform Iowa’s Senators and Representatives about his concerns with Iowa’s rising energy costs.  In September he delivered names of 20,000 member-consumers expressing their concerns as well.

'Bus Stop' Coming to Vinton

Director Jill Lockard-Bopp researching 1950's lighting, the era of the play Submitted by Anthony Bopp Bus Stop will be staged by ACT I may 14-23 at the Palace Theatre in Vinton. The setting is a small bus stop diner outside of Kansas City, where a diverse group of travelers must spend the night together waiting for the roads to be cleared of a snow storm. Each of the eight characters learns hard lessons about the nature of love and loneliness in situations that are poignant and funny.
